kms. from Pauri situated on the bank of Alaknanda
river Srinagar was once the capital of the Garhwal
Kings before the arrival of British. Even today
it is the biggest township of the district and
is the seat of the Garhwal University. It is located
of the junction of roads from Kotdwar, Rishikesh,
Tehri Garhwal and Badrinath. The
name Srinagar is derived from Srixantra slab of
stone where men were sacrificed to pleased devine
power. |

Temple |

| Srinagar
abounds in ancient temples and Kamleshwar is the
most prominent among them. It is said that Lord
Rama had worshipped Lord Shiva here with a thousand
lotus flowers. One flower fell short and Rama compensated
this loss by offering one of his eyes. That is the
reason why he is also known as 'Kamal Nayan', meaning
lotus eyed. Every year on the occasion of 'Vaikunth
Chaturdashi', women come here to worship Lord Shiva
whole night with lighted lamps. |

| Keshorai
Math |
| This
temple is of great significance for its architectural
beauty. The temple has been made of huge stones
and the inscription on the stone of the main
door reveals that around 1682 A.D., a person
by the name of ' Keshorai ' got this temple
constructed. |

temple is at a distance of 3 kms. from the
main town of Srinager and is believed to have
been constructed by Adi Guru Sankaracharya.
The temple has a unique architectural beauty.
The central room of the temple has the idols

at a distance of the 19 kms. from the main town
of Srinagar via Chamdhar, Devalgarh was established
by the king of Kangra named Deval. The Laxmi Narayan
temple, Gauri Devi Temple & Rajrajeshwari temple
are the main attaraction here. Inscription on the
stones of the temples make them important from the
archaeological point of view. |
